June

Boo took me to another happy hour event at a small store on Bond Street. The talented June Ambrose and Catherine Malandrino flitted around the store like gorgeous swans. We tried on turbans, eyeballed gay sugar daddies, posed for bloggers, and drank free champagne.

We stopped for a quick bite at the Crosby Hotel, before sipping more champagne at 60 Thompson. We were both exhausted from the week so we gave Jimmys (James Hotel) a shot and ended up sharing an elevator ride with Joe Jonas, who has to be top 3 shortest men I have come across. He is like Olsen Twin small.

Reasons to Love NYC

The day started as "hump day" and ended as a true NYC evening, spontaneous and hilarious! I spent Wednesday early evening poolside at the Dream Hotel. My friend "Boo" is connected with Jay-Z's assistant, who produced a show to promote an upcoming swimwear line.

It was a lovely event that was also sponsored by Grey Goose.....so 3 double vodka on the rocks later we were off to explore and after sweet talking a few doormen we found the next hot spot of NYC! Expect to hear about it just before Fashion Week...but here is a sneak preview!

We ended the night laughing with a top NY PR rep and her LA gal pals at our favorite hotel hang out. I love just letting the city take you to places you least expect.

Summer Treats in the City

If you find yourself in New York City this summer...may I recommend the following:

Tipsy Parson-156 9th Avenue
*Best Southern food by far, with the modern charm of Charleston, South Carolina*

My friend and I devoured Mac n Cheese, biscuits, fried pickles and Sweet Tea vodka iced teas!

The James Hotel-27 Grand Street
*Great pool on the roof without a door policy (although I see that changing)*

The Highline-Westside by Little West 12th up through the 30's)
*Though it can be hot and crowded, the art and design is impressive and unique to New York*

Exercise the Demons!

I have decided to try various exercise classes around the city to burn off some summer steam!

My first class was Physique 57. I wanted to become a hard body like Kelly Ripa and thought I was well on my way after the first class! Who knew "thigh dancing" would be something horrible and painful! The class targets key points on a woman's body, but it is SO repetitive and boring.

My second class was Pilates Reformer. I have tried a reformer machine once before and liked it, but at $60 a session it was not worth it. I found Pilates Reformer, which offers many amazing small classes that run about $25 a session when you initially sign up. After that it is about $35 per session. I felt relaxed, stretched, and instantly toned. Everyone in the free trial class ended up signing up! This is a summer must! http://www.pilatesreformingny.com/reformingny/index.php

My next class will be outdoor boot camp...ahhh!!

Horror Story

For those of you living in New York, you should be familiar with Urban Daddy. Well this was just sent to my email as something new and upcoming in the city. It sounds more like a recipe for disaster!! Have we not learned a lesson from Craigslist??

"Night Moves
Bedtime Stories from a Complete Stranger

Here Is Where We Meet

We’re sending a strange woman over to your place.

Free of charge.

What she does when she gets there: totally up to you.

As long as it solely revolves around her reading you a bedtime story.

No, we’re serious.

This is Here Is Where We Meet, an intellectual escort service through which a mysterious woman will come into your bedroom, read to you and... that’s it. Really, she just reads you a bedtime story. We promise, that’s all. Accepting appointments now.

Think of this as (literally) the storybook ending to your day. Or a bizarre alternative to counting sheep/warming a glass of milk/watching reruns of Seinfeld. A woman who, in the name of art and psychology, is making midnight house calls to read Goodnight Moon and other books to strangers.

Now, before story time can begin, you’ll need to answer an email questionnaire. Queries include: “When do you go to sleep?” “What are your favorite books?” and “Do you have any bedtime rituals?” Remember, honesty is always the best policy.

Once you’ve scheduled an appointment and picked a book (it’ll be free, even if you’re into Billy Shakespeare), she’ll arrive promptly 15 minutes before bed to spin you a sleepy yarn. Or help you search for Waldo.

And when you’ve finally nodded off to dreamland, she’ll quietly clean up after herself, shut off the lights and lock the door on her way out.

And they all lived happily ever after.
Note:
Here Is Where We Meet, accepting appointments now"

Bieber

It was like any other Thursday in New York. I enjoyed an outdoor dinner at Spice Market with a good friend, then met another group at The Standard. Two more gin and cucumber martinis turned a simple night into an unforgettable one.

I surprised myself by picking up Justin Bieber's long lost older brother (with a more mature haircut). I am not sure how it happened, but one minute I was hearing stories about his interesting 24 years of life and the next we are half naked on my roof? It was a good thing he was hung like a porn star and put a lot of passion in his kisses, because his baby face made me feel like I was his babysitter vs. lover.

I admire his enthusiasm and energy, but this little fish needs some more time to grow in the big pond. Still, it is a sweet and pleasurable memory to add to the books.

"Never Say Never" right Biebs?

My Bad

I will admit I have been glossing over many new life issues by going out as much as possible. So it is only fitting that I ended up in a place I never thought I would be again, in the arms of the man I once feared. You may recall my post from the night before I left for Christmas when I basically karate kicked this guy out of my room. He then proceeded to aggressively text and call me from January-April. Before that, I wrote about him in the popular entry, "Poker Face".

It was strange because I had a strong feeling about him the night before. It had been at least two months since I even thought about him, so I thought it odd that I would focus on this one moment. Tonight, I was out with a lot of friends when he text me to meet him at the new Dream hotel. When I realized that I would be going there anyway, I text him. All of my many months of ignoring him just wasted into nothing in less than a second. It was in part to me being restless with the night and life in general.

He met me outside and took all of us right in. I was impressed that he introduced himself to all of my friends and bought them multiple rounds of drinks. We spent the next three hours talking, laughing, and kissing in the presence of others. It was a surreal moment for me to be sitting across from Kirstie Alley, relaxing one puff at a time, and kissing a man who I never thought I would see again and at one point was so relieved about it. I ended up lying on the bench, staring up a the stars, trying to wrap my head around the night.

We left when the staff started gathering the outdoor cushions. He drove me home and physically carried me to my front door. Now it is all TBD. The calls and texts have already started and I can't stop kicking myself for opening this door that should have been sealed shut.

Home Is Where the Heart Is

I flew home completely exhausted after a full week of going out every night. In my opinion, there is no better place to spend the 4th of July than in the south.

It had been about 7 months since I had last been home and I was determined to soak in as much sun and saltwater as possible. What I did not expect was a text from my first love/boyfriend asking to see me. We dated for over two years and have continued to hook up every now and then for the past three years. I met him for breakfast and beach time the next morning. He was even sexier than I remembered. I grew up on the beach, so surfer boys still get under my skin. I love driving down the beach roads and seeing flocks of shirtless, tan, buff surfer boys riding bikes or walking with boards. They carry a certain look that unfortunately comes with a slacker personality.

Anyways, I found myself staring at my ex as he caught wave after wave. He dove off the board, which I expected to go flying, but instead he surfaced with his long, tan, arm glistening out of the water with a tight grip on the board. I wanted to jump him the entire morning, but it didn't seem right. We have an unconditional love and respect for each other, but our lives and expectations could not be more different. Still, he is a man. I always feel protected and soft when I am around him. I always go back to an 18 year old girl who was completely in love.

For a moment I thought of what my life would be like if I never left the south. I would have never owned a pair of Jimmy Choos or Christian Louboutin, but maybe the love and security with a genuine man would be worth it?

Too late now!

Expect the Unexpected

I have learned that being single in the city=crazy nights that sometimes go in a direction that you never expected.

On Thursday night, I met one of my few guy friends for a drink at Diablo, which turned into four fun margaritas...each! It is rare to find a genuinely great guy in the city. We laughed about my misfortunes in the dating world, which made the tequila go down much easier.

We said our goodbyes early, as he is a newlywed and has the married curfew :) So I went to a bar that I shall not name, to meet the yummy Italian soccer player. We talked, laughed, and kissed yet for some reason I found myself really restless. I would just get up and walk around to talk to my other friends. The crowd was super weird and asking me strange questions. One guy was in a tank top complete with a hand dyed purple alligator skin backpack. He kept popping up out of nowhere and screaming at me about some other girl dismissing him at the bar? Then his friend appeared behind him and guess who it was!!? The same asshole who London (posts from the ole days) went home with on our first date!! I literally wanted to show my teeth and growl at him to keep him away from my sexy Italian.

The chemistry is dangerous when the Italian and I get together because we are both true Aries. This means we are both highly sexual, aggressive, and really enjoy public places. I found his hands moving in under my dress, until they were literally in. I was lost in the moment for a second before telling him to meet me in the bathroom. Before I could even walk in, he had it all hanging. I immediately stopped him and walked out of the bathroom (again....restless). I found my friend standing at the bar and he suggested taking a look at the bar on the roof. I gladly accepted and left the Italian pulling up his pants in the bathroom. We walked around and he gave me straight tequila on the rocks before I was bored and went back downstairs. I sat by the Italian, texting my lost friend upstairs. When he reappeared I felt bad and went to talk to him, but found him talking to the man stalker! Ugh...he is like a roach that never dies!

My friend suggested we go smoke, which I happily agreed to. I assumed we were going to the roof again, but he took me to a random floor in the hotel. I quickly found myself in a room, intimate, yet comfortable as I have known this person for four years now. We smoked and talked until we both couldn't move. He pulled me next to him on the bed and we cuddled and caressed each other. It was just starting to get hot when we heard voices and suddenly all of the lights came on. I looked up in midstraddle to see a group of 15 people!! They all started laughing, but my friend and I still couldn't really function. I met a few of these people downstairs, who came to my rescue. Then I saw the "roach" AGAIN. He sat next to me and tried to have a conversation, before my friend took me out of the room. He took me to another random room, where we just started making out and ended up falling off several pieces of furniture.

Sometime around 5am we snuck out of the hotel and walked to his place. We still were too lit to really do anything but fall off of more furniture and makeout. I didn't sleep a wink and felt horrible at work the next day. I also felt horrible that I completely blew off the Italian!! I text him to cover my tracks and ended up seeing him the next night for ONE innocent drink.

I guess I am enjoying the endless freedom as a single woman...for now.
