After almost exactly 25 years of marriage, this power couple is calling it quits. Interestingly, the divorce comes only months after Maria lost her father. I was reading in
Psychology Today magazine that when one partner undergoes a major life change (such as death) it becomes exponentially harder to maintain the union. Our experiences irrevocably change us - compound that with the fact that she left her career to be the Governor's wife - perhaps Maria felt unmoored.
Still, it makes me sad that these two couldn't make it. The marriage proved to be adventagous for Arnold; he once famously said that the keys to success were: 1. move to America 2. work your butt off 3. marry a Kennedy. Maria, for her part, has started a successful women's empowerment
website. Best of luck to these two.
